My Experience as a Brand Ambassador

Anyone who follows me on Instagram is well aware that I am an Express Brand Ambassador! So many friends, and even just random people on Instagram, reach out to me and have a lot of questions about what being an ambassador means, my responsibilities, how I got this job, and if I like it!! Sooo… I have decided to write a mini ~exposé~ on my experience as a brand ambassador so far!

Express has a student ambassador program which is ran through an outside company, Youth Marketing Co. The ExpressU program has developed on a nationwide scale and is now on 24 campuses, with 72 student ambassadors.

I was lucky enough to be selected as one of those 72 ambassadors!

The biggest question I get is… how did I get this amazing job, and I have a quite suprising answer. One day during November, I was sitting on my phone during my accounting class (shhhh don’t tell my professor) and I received an Instragram DM from someone asking if I would be interested in becoming an ambassador for Express. A few days later I had a phone interview and then submitted a creative style assignment the next day, so they could further judge my style. And just like that, I became an Express Ambasssador!

So what exactly is a student brand ambassador? As a campus brand ambassador for Express, I basically have to positively represent Express on Syracuse University’s campus and bring awareness of the brand to Syracuse students.

My team (me and the two other Express brand ambassadors at Syracuse) are responsible for hosting six engaging events on campus each semester to show off how great Express is! We give out discount codes, apparel, accessories and “swag” to students on campus, as we encourage them to sign up for Express’s loyalty program.

Individually, I am responsible for weekly Instagram posts, Instagram stories and offering discount codes. #Expressu #Expresspartner sound familiar anyone??

Luckily, Express oh-so-generously offers me A LOT of clothing so I can incorporate it into my posts, wear it to our events and obviously show it off around campus on a daily basis. This might be the best perk of the job 😉

Not only was it fun to engage with more people on campus, but this job also provided me with valuable hands on marketing and brand experience! I also loved the challenge of creating new, cool content for my social media accounts. Overall, a 10/10 experience!

xx Kelly
