Casual for Class

Syracuse University is an amazing place… literally the only bad part about it is the weather. In fact, today I woke to a huge snow storm and found out that we already got over 100 inches of snow this winter. Love to see it!! Anyways, with the weather we get, it’s hard enough to force yourself to brave the cold and head to class, let alone look cute too. So what’s a girl to do?

I’ve found that the best outfits for walking around campus and going to class at Syracuse are those that are comfortable, trendy and warm. Here’s one of my go-to outfits for class!

The Jacket. In upstate New York, you’re basically going to need to wear a jacket from October to April, so you might as well invest in some cute ones. Although for the super cold days I always opt for a warmer jacket like a parka or a puffer jacket, I’m a sucker for a good leather jacket. A leather jacket instantly dresses up a really causal outfit and makes it so much trendier. My favorite leather jacket (pictured above) is by the brand AQUA, but it’s from a few seasons ago. The shearling collar and lining makes it significantly warmer, which is always a plus. You can find a similar jacket by the same brand from bloomingdales. I also found some other cute options that are slightly more affordable from Express and Forever 21!

The Top. Who doesn’t like to wear cozy sweatshirts? I mean come onnnnn. The key to making sweatshirts cuter is to strategically buy them, not just wear your favorite one from high school. Two sweatshirts I’ve had my eye on recently are from Champion and Adidas. The sweatshirt I’m wearing in the picture is no longer available, but I got it from Forever 21. Forever 21 has some really cute and affordable sweatshirts; I’d really encourage you to just browse the site!

The Pants. I’m not even being dramatic when I say that I can’t remember the last time I wore jeans to class. I live in leggings. I know Lululemon is on the pricier side, but I swear by their brand and have never regretted a single purchase. Their customer service is also amazing; they hem all their leggings for free and also make repairs, such holes or rips, for free! I love their darker grey, patterned leggings, like in the picture. They’re still simple yet they spice up your outfit a little bit. But, my favorite style of their leggings is their plain black wunder unders, because they’re super high rise and go with everything.

The Shoes. Campus is huge and I’m a busy girl. If I’ve learned anything, it’s that the key to making it though a long day is comfy shoes! Obviously, if it’s the middle of a snowstorm I normally opt for snow boots, but once it clears up, I always sport a sneaker. Brands have been really on point lately and have been designing some dope sneakers. The ones I’m wearing in the picture are Adidas, but I also love these other sneakers from Nike and Adidas.

The Hat. You always have to top off an outfit with a cute hat. Beanies are super popular, but right now I’m loving pom pom hats. Fur adds some much needed texture to an outfit, however since it’s a statement, I would recommend sticking to simpler colors! I got my black fur hat during a ski vacation in Colorado, so I’m not exactly sure of the brand. Here’s a very similar faux-fur option!

Lastly, don’t forget to top off your outfit with your favorite accessories! I always go for simple sunglasses and my everyday jewelry. Dress cute n’ comfy, but please stay warm!!

  1. I love your blog already! I spend a ridiculous amount of time picking an outfit in the morning and usually paw through my drawers until I resort to the usual sweatshirt/sweater and leggings. Fashion is definitely important to me, but I feel like I don’t have the time to buy clothes and put together cute outfits ahead of time. I think good fashion starts with knowing where to shop. You seem to have it down!

I really dig your style, and I can definitely see similarities as I’m always sporting Lululemon (I swear they’re the best bang for your buck) and either Sorel boots or Adidas. I’m also a huge fan of the pom hats, so I guess all I need is a jacket!

Anyway, thanks so much for providing links to the stores where you bought your clothes! I’ll definitely be doing some online shopping in the near future. I think your blog will be extremely useful to me moving forward, and I look forward to keeping up with your fashion tips!

  2. Hi, I really like your post because there seem to be so few options left for clothing in such a cold weather. I mostly wear jackets in winter but sometimes I feel so heavy. I would definitely want to get some light ones.

The champion sweatshirt is one of my favorites. My BFF bought me one and I like it a lot.

I also agree that comfy shoes are the most important. I like uggs because they are big and warm. I think the only bad thing about them is that sometimes they get too slippery on ice. I would like to wear sneakers like Adidas but I feel it is still too cold.

You look great in the pictures! And I also like Pom Pom hats a lot. They are so cute. I don’t have one yet but I will be sure to check the website you provided. Thank you for your great suggestions.

  3. I think this is an awesome post that I can definitely relate to!

I love the way you divided the clothing articles and included links to buy them. I definitely struggle putting together class outfits and tend to only do laundry when I run out of leggings. Quality leggings can be expensive, but definitely worth it. I really like TJ Maxx for leggings and running pants. They often have some quality brands with unique prints at a discounted price.

I am also a huge sneaker fan and prefer to wear them every day. I struggle in the winter because I hate the heaviness of boots. If you’re looking for other cool sneaker brands, I like Steve Madden. They always have unique styles, like platforms and different fabrics.

I am excited to see more of your posts!

  4. The weather is definitely not the best part of Syracuse and getting dressed for class in the snow can be hard. You provided some great insight into looking cute but casual for class. It’s hard to be both comfortable and stylish but leggings and a sweater are always a great go-to.
I’m obsessed with lululemon and definitely agree that the wunder under is by far the best legging they sell. They are so easy to wear.
I really like that you gave many different options when discussing each part of your outfit. As the reader it made the post feel a lot more engaging and accessible than if you had simply listed what you were wearing.
